As I came home yesterday, the television was tuned in to one of the various news channels.  The channel, in its infinite wisdom, was exposing the fact that mosquitoes could be used in future terrorist attacks.  It mentioned that mosquitoes, in conjunction with diseases, would pose a problem for Americans.  I proceeded to turn off the television.
These ridiculous "the terrorists could" warnings are an insult to the intelligence of the American public.  It is common knowledge that there are dangerous diseases, chemical compounds, and traditional weapons that might be used by terrorists.  We live each day knowing that something could happen; however, we don't need constant reminders of each and every way in which terrorists could strike.  Within days, I'm sure that one of the news channels will inform us that chlorine gas is hazardous to our health.  But, maybe that channel will instead broadcast the news that uranium is a dangerous substance.
It seems as if these news channels want to give the terrorists ideas.  If the terrorists were beginning to run low on ideas, all they have to do is watch CNN for about 30 seconds.  In those 30 seconds, CNN would clearly explain how America could be attacked by chemical and biologial means.  What is the point of broadcasting this information?  "To inform America" is not an acceptable answer to this question either.  There is a difference between informing people of dangers and scaring them into living in a bomb shelter.
It is ridiculous to subject our fellow Americans to unnerving broadcasts about how vulnerable each individual is.  The point has already been conveyed in the most hostile and dishonorable way imaginable.  At this point, it is the American public's duty to respect and have faith in the government to protect us from the outside dangers.  America is in a position that it has never been in before, and the media needs to begin to conduct themselves accordingly.
